Network Engineer

May - August 2020 • Plant City, FL

What I liked

My favorite part of this experience was how fast Verizon was able to transition from a physical environment into a remote one. While being remote, they made sure to accommodate us interns the best way they can. Also, I enjoyed being a leader in a competition where we had to design an online platform that will give employees a space to connect and build relationships with their coworkers while working remotely. I liked this because even though our team had to collaborate online, it was fun being able to network with other interns and hear about their cultures.

What I wish was different

Even though Verizon did an amazing job transitioning my internship into an online platform, I wish I had a social distanced internship in person. Having this would allow me to learn more about why I'm completing a certain project and how it will benefit our customers. Also, I'm a very hands-on person so having the opportunity to work with machines physically can help me gain more knowledge in my field, compared to doing so online.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is to join two types of organizations on campus. One for your major, and one for your interests. You should join an organization in your field because it can provide you access to resources you may not usually find that can win you internships and full-time opportunities. Joining this type of organization can also give you more insight into the applications of your major. You should also join an organization for your interests because it allows you to sometimes "escape" from the stress college can give you. When I joined a club about something I was interested in, I met many friends that I would consider my family. Hanging out with them helps me get away from the stress College gives me and allows me to have a clear, uncluttered mind.

Supply Chain Intern

June - August 2020 • Basking Ridge, NJ

What I liked

Everyone was so friendly and willing to help. I was tasked to learn a whole new software and present progress and results by the end.

What I wish was different

Fewer all-intern programs. There was too much in attempt to compensate for the virtual internship, but it ended up taking away from my actual work time. Also, the Intern Group Project was difficult to coordinate because we didn't really know each other and took some time to figure out how to work together

Advice

You learn so much more than your discipline and you learn to be a better contributor and leader.

What I wish was different
