Position Description


Aurrera Health Group offers a dedicated and fast-paced environment focused on helping a range of clients improve the health care safety net. The incumbent of this position will help clients develop and implement policies that drive toward a whole person approach to health care. The Junior Policy Consultant will provide project management and planning support for clients and Aurrera Health Group leadership, conduct policy research and data analysis, contribute to published work products, participate in stakeholder engagement efforts and interact with community members, researchers, providers and advocates.

The Junior Policy Consultant will primarily be working on a project in California to support better integrated and coordinated care for dual eligible beneficiaries involving providing technical assistance on Medicare policy issues to state officials, stakeholder engagement, and program design and implementation. Oral and written communication skills are a critical element of this position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Working closely with Aurrera Health Group leadership and fellow staff to accomplish company and client goals and objectives.
  2. Conducting policy research and analysis for purposes of responding to client requests for information, developing issue papers, briefing materials, and presenting policy and operational recommendations to clients.
  3. Briefing Aurrera Health Group leadership and clients, both orally and in writing, on policy issues and research related to client projects.
  4. Drafting policy briefs for external publication in conjunction with Aurrera Health Group leadership.
  5. Providing project management support in the form of developing and advancing work plans, meeting agendas and other meeting materials.
  6. Preparing PowerPoint presentations and informational graphics for and on behalf of clients.
  7. Planning and executing stakeholder engagement activities.
  8. Supporting the development of business development proposals.
  9. Engaging in firm-wide activities such as staff meetings, policy team meetings and annual company retreats.
 

Location


Aurrera Health Group’s main office is in Sacramento, California; with an additional office located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, however our team is working remotely until further notice due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Occasional travel will be required; particularly if the applicant is not a resident of California.
 


Required Qualifications


Must have:
  • At least one year of experience in health care policy, preferably on Medicare or Medicaid/safety net issues;
  • A commitment to improving access to health coverage and the quality of the health care system;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Skills related to effective project management, including strong work ethic, attention to detail, time management, ability to prioritize, problem solving, adaptability, willingness to learn, and a proactive work style.
 
Must be:
  • A quick study;
  • Highly reliable and able to manage assignments of various priority and duration;
  • Comfortable working independently, but with guidance;
  • Able to develop relationships with various kinds of stakeholders, including state and local government, hospitals, advocates, health plans, providers, and consumers.
 
Preference will be given to those who have:
  • A Master’s degree in public policy, public health, social work, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on Medicare or Medicaid policy issues at the government or health plan level;
  • Experience supporting organization leadership;
  • Contributed to and/or developed professional health policy publications.
