Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death and disability, globally — yet there continues to be an underinvestment in action and financing.  
 
The Health Finance Institute (HFI) is a global-health start-up working to change this. We are on a mission to develop tailored financing solutions that generate the greatest impact by using, translating, and analyzing evidence to prioritize and educate investments for foundations, funders, and investors. We aim to use catalytic capital investments for NCDs and fuel financial and economic returns, as well as social and health gains in the short- and long-term. We are global health and blended finance specialists that work with the private sector, countries, financial partners, and international organizations to develop partnerships between the public and private sector to address the NCD financing gap.  
 
We are seeking Data Analytics Intern to continue and accelerate the groundbreaking work that Health Finance Institute embarks on. This position reports to the Director of Health Economics.  
 
Duties or Responsibilities: Looking for an intern to assist with a number of health outcome and economics analyses for NCDs, focusing particularly diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The intern must be self-driven, able to handle multiple tasks and analyses at once, and work in a diverse team across different time-zones. 
 
We are looking for someone who has or is pursuing a masters, PhD, or post-graduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics or related field with the following additional qualifications: 
 
  • Proficient in STATA 
  • Experience with logistic regression and survival analyses 
  • Previous work with healthcare outcomes and cost related data 
  • Excellent data analytics skills  
  • Demonstrated excellence in an academic or professional setting  
  • Passion, drive, and intrinsic motivation  
  • Ability to be agile and pivot as a member of this dynamic startup  
 
We will give preference to candidates with the additional qualifications: 
 
  • Proficient in R 
  • Previous work in NCDs 
  • Previous work with insurance claims data 
  • Demonstrated experience with mathematical modeling 
  • Experience with project management platforms like Asana  
  • Experience working with SharePoint and other Microsoft Office products  
  • Experience working with G-Suite  
 
More about the position:  
  • Start date: January 2021  
  • Time Commitment: 15-25 hours a week for an initial three months with possibility of extending.
