ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: Center for Civilians in Conflict is an international nonprofit with offices around the world working to improve protection for civilians caught in conflict zones. Our mission is to work with armed actors and civilians in conflict to develop and implement solutions to prevent, mitigate, and respond civilian harm. TEAM DESCRIPTION: CIVIC’s small but robust Development team is responsible for raising funds from government and private sources to support CIVIC’s $7m annual organizational budget. The Development team stewards, cultivates, and prospects for institutional and individual donors and produces programmatic writing and outreach to increase and sustain financial support for CIVIC’s mission.
CIVIC is seeking highly qualified applicants for our Internship program to work directly with our Development team. An internship at CIVIC is a rigorous and rewarding experience, requiring strong research skills and attention to detail, a working knowledge of international humanitarian law and practice, and an exceptional level of maturity and focus. Our interns and fellows have participated in high-level Washington DC meetings and often have the opportunity to design and advocate for their own projects within CIVICs scope of work. They have gone on to full time employment in organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, Department of Defense, Department of State, Open Society Foundations, and the World Bank.
Internship duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Assist with data entry into Salesforce and maintain databases, tracking and grants documents;
● Draft donor communications;
● Copy-edit organizational documents including supporter communications, blogs, letters of inquiry, and grant applications;
● Research grant prospects using foundation database;
● Assist Development staff with coordinating submission of fundraising applications to foundations, prizes, and other initiatives;
· Assist in planning and execution of special events and outreach initiatives;
● Function as a self-sustaining member of our team.
This internship is open to current graduate level students, those who have recently completed graduate studies, or those with an undergraduate degree and relevant work experience.
Requirements
Minimum Time Requirement: This is a full-time internship and interns should be available for a period of at least four months.
This is an unpaid internship based in Washington DC; interns working in the office qualify for a small daily stipend for food and travel. CIVIC is not able to sponsor candidates for this position; a valid visa is required.
