Research Assistant

Envirobe is an early, seed-stage life sciences company based in Washington DC and New York City. Envirobe leverages engineering and biological principles to bring sustainable alternatives to traditional waste management. Our environmental microbes, or envirobes, degrade human waste products and are designed to be environmentally friendly, human-safe, and cost-effective. Ultimately, we hope to prevent the degradation of our natural environments and bring human activities one more step towards sustainability.

We are presently looking to expand the team and are looking for a full-time research assistant to help us achieve our goals in our New York or DC site . Given level of interest, commitment and competence, roles exist beyond the assistant level which the successful candidate might transfer into.

Responsibilities:
The hired technician would work directly with the company’s Chief Scientific Officer to
optimize our envirobes for market. To this end, responsibilities include day-to-day molecular/proteomic/bacterial experiments, proficient record and note keeping, and laboratory maintenance. Independence in the laboratory would be expected but proper training prior would be provided.

Required Qualifications:
-Bachelors level degree in physical/natural/chemical sciences/engineering or related field.
-Ability to work independently in BSL-1 biology laboratory setting
-Preferably 1-year of independent experience in a wet lab
-Strong desire to create a social impact
-General interest in cool synthetic biology and/or sustainability
-Experience with some of the following techniques: Molecular cloning, western blot analysis, HPLC, enzyme kinetics assays, PCR, primer design, RNA-seq, fluorescence/light microscopy. directed evolution, genome engineering, and basic bacteriology methods (culture, aseptic technique, etc)

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
-Master’s or higher-level degree work
-Experience with gram-positive and non-Escherichia coli gram-negative bacteria -Experience with most of the following protocols: Molecular cloning, western blot analysis, HPLC, enzyme kinetics assays, PCR, RNA-seq, fluorescence/light microscopy. directed evolution, genome engineering, and basic bacteriology methods (culture, aseptic technique, etc)
-Experience with Geneious or a similar bioinformatics and sequence analysis software


Hiring Expectations, locations, and compensation:
-Minimum 1-year commitment
-The position is expected to begin early 2020 (late January-mid February)
-Expected time commitment: 40 hrs/week
-Located in NYC or DC
