Recent Graduate Consumer Safety Officer

Summary
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Medical Products and Tobacco, Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE), located in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) regulates the manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of tobacco products. Our goal is to reduce the harm from all regulated tobacco products across the entire population, including: reducing the number of people who start to use tobacco products, encouraging more people to stop using these products, and reducing the adverse health impact for those who continue to use these products. CTP's actions have significant public health and consumer protection impact and are among the most important issues faced by the Agency in its long and distinguished history. 

The Recent Graduate Program is a program that provides employment opportunities for recent graduates and individuals who obtained certificates from qualified educational institutions or programs. The program enables individuals to explore Federal civil service employment at the beginning of their careers; and engages them at the onset of their work lives, before their career path are fully established. The program duration is one year.

Responsibilities

  • Issues and monitors assignments to the field and initiates investigations to develop evidence to support appropriate administrative and regulatory actions.
  • Collaboratively performs tobacco-related investigations involving complaints or violations.
  • Reviews and evaluates tobacco-related evidence to determine if regulatory compliance requirements are met. If action is necessary, recommendation documents are prepared for Center approval or disapproval of the appropriate action.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations regarding inspection and investigation methods and procedures necessary to accomplish compliance/enforcement/regulatory objectives related to tobacco programs.
  • Conducts complex, technical investigations and inspections of establishments in the area of assigned responsibility and prepares final reports, investigation memorandum, and proposed or final endorsements.
