Public Health Nutritionist

Location: Fairfax County WIC location
Provides services at multiple sites with the Fairfax County Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. Provides nutrition services to women, infants, and children, including certification of eligible participants, determining nutritional risk, and prescribing appropriate food packages. Provides nutrition education and counseling to low-risk and high-risk clients. Documents all certification and nutrition assessment activities. Plans and conducts nutrition education, including breastfeeding support and promotion, to meet participants' needs as required by established guidelines. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Senior Public Health Nutritionist.
Preferred Qualification: Candidates who meet credentialing requirements to be a Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Previous WIC experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in Spanish as a second language.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's or higher degree in nutritional sciences, public health nutrition, dietetics or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university and satisfactorily completed a program of supervised clinical experience approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; or related qualification requirements as defined by the Code of Virginia Chapter 27.1 of Title 54.1 Dietitians and Nutritionists.
Certifications and Licenses Required: Some positions may require active registration as a Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or other certification or license as defined by Code of Virginia Chapter 27.1 of Title 54.1 Dietitians and Nutritionists. Valid driver's license.
Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, an Office of the Inspector General (OIG) check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer. On-call staff are scheduled on an as-needed basis. Work locations and hours will vary.
Schedule: This position may not exceed 900 hours per calendar year, and is contingent on renewal of grant funding beyond 9/30/2019. Individuals in these positions are not eligible for health benefits, to earn leave or receive holiday pay.
