Reporting Fellow

Summary of the position

We are hiring a Reporting Fellow to write reports for institutional and high net worth donors, steward existing partners, and support the Semilla Nueva development team to build new relationships with granting organizations and international partners. In this role you will be responsible for producing high-quality written reports on Semilla Nueva programs and vision, preparing presentations for key stakeholders, and acting as a point of contact for existing donors. In addition, you will work closely with Semilla Nueva’s M&E department, acquiring skills in data analysis & visualization.

We are looking for a passionate, creative, and outgoing team member with excellent writing skills to share our strategic vision in a coherent and compelling manner to potential and existing partners. Our goal isn't just to get publicity and money, but to build connections and awareness about small farmers, the issues that impact their lives, and effective ways to make a difference.

The position will be based primarily in the SN main office in Guatemala City. While a majority of the work is office-based, the position will require occasional field travel (5-10%) to understand Semilla Nueva’s programs and beneficiaries and keep our donors connected to the local farmers and the communities that we serve. Additional travel may include attending conferences, workshops, other events in Guatemala or internationally. The position will report to the Development Manager.

Qualifications

Required:

·       Excellent writing/communications skills, with an ability to communicate complicated ideas simply and concisely

·       Fluent in English – most applications, reports and communications with partners will be in English.

·       Proficiency in Spanish for internal and external communications

·       High attention to detail

·       Demonstrated interest in rural agriculture and food security, and a passion to see change in Guatemala

·       Demonstrated stress-management and flexibility in the work environment

Desired:

·       Experience in journalism, creative, or other writing

·       Interest and skill in research (for proposal development)

·       Exposure/familiarity with basic Microsoft Excel a plus

·       Experience in sales and/or client relationship management a plus

Expectations

-         Full-time position based in Guatemala City

-         Minimum commitment of one year, potential opportunity for growth post-fellowship

-         Ability to work independently, proactively, and prioritize/coordinate a variety of activities

-         Ability to creatively problem-solve in challenging work environments

-         Comfortable traveling to and staying in rural parts of Guatemala with difficult living conditions.

Specific Tasks

1.     Report writing (60%)– The Reporting Fellow is responsible for working across all Semilla Nueva’s departments and English and Spanish-speaking staff to provide stakeholders with comprehensive updates on the organization’s growth and vision. This includes a bi-annual common report on all organizational activities for external donors, as well as monthly written updates to all staff and the board of directors. It may also include Spanish-language presentations to Guatemala-based partners.

2.     Donor management/grant monitoring (10%)– The Reporting Fellow will also be responsible for communicating with major institutional partners, planning and organizing field visits with donors, and developing a standardized system to monitor grant-related programmatic/financial execution.

3.     Additional support, development (20%) – The Reporting Fellow will be responsible for additional activities for the development department as needed. This may include data entry for our donor database, researching potential new partners, and participating in presentations and conferences.

4.     Additional support, monitoring and evaluation (10%) – The Reporting Fellow will be responsible for supporting the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator to analyze and communicate organizational activities and impact metrics to the internal and external stakeholders.
